๐ญ Helper Promotion Information
This walkthrough will discuss all of the information needed to do a helper promotion.
Initiating The Promotion
Initiating a promotion mainly includes announcing to the server that a player has been promoted to Helper and then reaching out to the player directly.
First, send an alert in-game to announce that the player has been promoted:
/alert &e&l<Helper's Name> &fhas been promoted to &9Helper&f!
Then, message the player to ask them when they are available for their Helper Talk.
Promote to Helper
When promoting a player to Helper, make sure that you wait until they are having their Helper Talk. This is an important step because it ensures that the helper is aware of their promotion and knows how to use their new abilities correctly.
- The first step is promoting them in-game. To do this, simply do
/promote <player> helper. This will update their permissions in-game so that they are now Helper. - Next, they need to be updated on Discord. To do this, simply click on their profile in Discord, and give them the Helper Role.
- Third, create their Helper Feedback Channel in the Helpers category. Click on the "+" sign next to the category name, select "Text Channel", title the channel "h | name", and then select enable the Private Channel setting.
- Add the player to the channel. To do this, right click on the channel, and then select "Edit Channel". Navigate to the "Permissions" tab, click "Add member or role", then search for the player and add them.
- Finally, they need to be promoted on the Forums. For this, simply ping Dakota once per day until he does it.
What To Cover in Helper Talk
For a period of time, the staff team stopped doing helper talks, and simply sent a wall of text to a helper when promoted. However, we found that helpers who did not have a helper talk consistently performed worse and would end up unsure of how to properly fill their role as Helper. As such, many of the admins have returned to doing formal Helper Talks.
Start off by discussing why they were promoted to Helper. Emphasize anything major that they were doing right and that they should continue that behavior. Inform them of the reason that we have helpers - not to moderate chat, but to help people. Go over the attitude towards helpers and how they contribute to the success of the staff team.
Next, send the Helper the Extended Helper Guidelines, and briefly go over how it can be used. Talk about some of the major parts that they should pay attention to. There's no point in reading the entire guidelines out to them, but skimming over the different sections and encouraging them to read through it in their own time will help guide them from a good starting place.
Then, go over all of the major new things they have access to and allow them to see an example of using each:
- In-game helper chat (have them talk in it)
- In-game helper tickets (make a ticket and allow them to answer it)
- Discord helper chat (describe where it is and how to use it)
- Discord helper feedback channel (describe where it is and how to use it)
- Discord support tickets (describe where they are and what involvement is appropriate for a helper)
To wrap up the talk, simply congratulate them and remind them that the staff team trusts them and is there to support them. Suggest again that they read through the guidelines when they have a chance to do so. End the talk by asking if they have any questions and answer them as needed!
