๐ฒ Mod Promotion Information
This walkthrough will discuss all of the information needed to do a moderator promotion.
Initiating The Promotion
Initiating a promotion mainly includes announcing to the server that a Helper has been promoted to TrialMod and then reaching out to the player directly.
First, send an alert in-game to announce that the Helper has been promoted:
/alert &d&l<Mod's Name> &bhas been promoted to &3Trial&2Mod&b!
Then, message the player to ask them when they are available for their Mod Talk.
Promote to TrialMod
When promoting a player to TrialMod, make sure that you wait until they are having their Mod Talk. This is an important step because it ensures that the mod is aware of their promotion and knows how to use their new abilities correctly.
- The first step is promoting them in-game. To do this, simply do
/promote <player> trialmod. This will update their permissions in-game so that they are now TrialMod. - Next, they need to be updated on Discord. To do this, simply click on their profile in Discord, remove the Helper role, and add the TrialMod role.
- Third, move their Helper Feedback Channel to the Moderators category. Simply drag it from the Helpers category and drop it in the Moderators category.
- Then, change the 'h' in the channel name to a 't'. To modify the channel name, right click on the channel, select Edit Channel, and then use the text box.
- Finally, they need to be promoted on the Forums. For this, simply ping Dakota once per day until he does it.
Promoting to Moderator
Promoting to full Moderator is very similar with just a few more steps.
- The first step is promoting them in-game. To do this, simply do
/promote <player> mod. This will update their permissions in-game so that they are now Mod. - Next, they need to be updated on Discord. To do this, simply click on their profile in Discord, remove the TrialMod role, and add the Mod role.
- Then, change the 't' in the channel name to a 'm'. To modify the channel name, right click on the channel, select Edit Channel, and then use the text box.
- Invite them to the Staff Discord Server. Right click on the Staff Discord Server, hit "Invite People", and then click on their name to invite them.
- Once they have joined the Staff Discord Server, give the player the Mod role, following the same process as in Step 2.
- Finally, they need to be promoted on the Forums. For this, simply ping Dakota once per day until he does it.
What To Cover in Mod Talk
Mod Talks are a moderator's first large interaction with the staff team. There is a lot of information that could be covered, so it is important to stay somewhat on topic and ensure that the moderator gets a good introduction to the staff team.
Keep in mind that Mod Talks are done when a player is promoted from Helper to Trial Mod. Up until this point, they have had relatively limited interactions with the Staff Team, and may not be used to openly talking about staff-related topics. They also likely will feel some pressure with all of the new responsibility, so try to remain relaxed and neutral. Start off by emphasizing that we trust them with their new responsibilities and are there to support them throughout the process.
The first thing to cover with them is their promotion in-game and discord. Make sure that they have all of the correct permissions and can do everything they need to do.
Next, go over this wiki with the player, and explain how it can best be used. Maybe take a quick second to emphasize the main areas that they should look through: punishment guidelines, moderator commands, and moderation policies. You don't need to read over it all for them; moderators should be capable of reading. However, giving them some direction of what to look at is good practice. Suggest to them that they should give it a read over when they have time and that they are free to ask any questions they have afterwards.
Make sure to spend some time covering what separates TrialMod and Mod. Here are some big points:
- Mods can access Staff Discord, TrialMods cannot
- Mods can see Player Reports, TrialMods cannot
- Mods can use AltVerify, TrialMods cannot
- Mods can ban for longer than 7 days, TrialMods cannot
Then, give them some time to explore their new role in-game. Have them talk in chat to see their TrialMod tag. Let them talk in staffchat so that they can see what it looks like and how to use it, along with pointing out that its available from discord, too. Remind them that they should have access to all the commands they need, but not to test them out on players.
Finally, I like to wrap up the Mod Talk by discussing what is currently going on with the Staff Team. Sometimes this is just a short little "we're all just chilling", and sometimes this has a lot to it. Some ideas for this portion include:
- Recent discussions by the staff team that the new TrialMod may end up being involved in
- New rules or restrictions on being staff that may not be known by the general player base
- Projects that the staff team is currently working on, where those projects are headed, and how the TrialMod can become involved
- Which staff are most active in their timezone, and where they can go currently to get support the fastest
- If the Staff Team is currently holding meetings, and if so, when and how often
You can then end off the talk by asking if they have any questions and answering them as needed!
