๐Ÿ›’ Checking Player Shops

When reviewing this policy, refer to ๐Ÿ›’ Player Shop Management > Shop Admin for more information on each of the commands referenced.

How To Check Player Shops

When checking player shops, the main concern is just making sure that the player shop market stays fair and no player is in some way gaining an advantage via breaking the rules.

Generally, you can just start by using the /sa check command to iterate through the player shops. For each shop, take a second and check the following:

  • Is the player shop currently rented? If not, you can move on to the next player shop.
  • Does the player shop have at least 3 different items in stick, excluding donor kit items? If not, it is in violation.
  • Does the player shop follow the limit of 8 entities (item frames, armour stands, etc.)? If not, it is in violation.
  • Does the player shop sell any chems, cocobinide, or cactium? If so, it is in violation.
  • Is the player shop walled off / blocked off so that players cannot enter? If so, it is in violation.
  • Does the player shop have decorations, such as water or lava, that exit the shop region? If so, it is in violation.
  • Does the player shop have any shops that are deceitful, misleading, or scamming? If so, it is in violation.

Once you have confirmed all of the above are not in violation, move on to the next player shop. You should not have to spend a lot of time at each player shop - this should be a fairly easy process.

What To Do For Rule Violations

If you find that a shop is in violation of one of the player shop rules, then you should warn the shop owner appropriately. First, open the Shop Admin View with the command:
/sa

Right click on the player shop in violation. This will send a notice to the player via the Shop Admin command that their shop is in violation and must be fixed. Next, warn the player so that the violation is on their history:
/warn <player> Player Shop Violation: <specific violation>

Finally, it is best to follow up with placing a sign in their shop stating the violation and sending them a mail to do the same:
/mail send <player> <message>

Once this is done, make sure to read the next section for information on following up on violations!

Following Up On Violations

Once a player has been informed that their shop is in violation of a player shop rule, they have 24 hours to fix their shop so that they are no longer in violation. To view the status of player shops, open the Shop Admin View:
/sa

From here, you can see the status of each shop:

  • Green indicates good standing
  • Orange indicates that the shop was given a notice in the past 24 hours
  • Yellow indicates that the shop has been flagged for review by the player
  • Red indicates that it has been 24 hours since a notice was given and the player has not yet flagged the shop for review

After you have checked shops, it is a good idea to follow up within the next 1-2 days to check back on any violations you found. It is suggested to start with any shops marked yellow, which have been flagged for review. Left click on the shop in the Shop Admin View to teleport to it. Then check the player shop and determine whether it is still in violation:

  • If the player shop is no longer in violation, then simply right click on the player shop in the Shop Admin View to clear the notice
  • If the player shop is still in violation, then right click on the player shop in the Shop Admin View to clear the current notice and refollow the steps in ๐Ÿ›’ Checking Player Shops > What To Do For Rule Violations

Next, go through any player shops that are marked red, which means that the shop was given a notice over 24 hours ago and has not been marked for review. Left click on the shop in the Shop Admin View to teleport to it. Then check the player shop and determine whether it is still in violation:

  • If the player shop is no longer in violation, then simply right click on the player shop in the Shop Admin View to clear the notice
  • If the player shop is still in violation, then it can be raffled off.

Like mentioned, in the case that a player has failed to fix the violation and has not flagged their shop for review, then their shop will be raffled off. To do this, first take ownership of the shop:
/arm setowner <shop number> <your name>

Next, use the Shop Admin Raffle command to begin a shop raffle:
/sa raffle <shop number> 24

In 24 hours, the raffle system will draw and award the shop to a random player who entered the raffle:

  • If the player does not own a shop, then the shop will be transferred to them automatically
  • If the player already owns a shop, then you will be sent a mail informing you of this and it is your responsibility to then follow up with the player and determine who the owner of the shop should be

That is all for keeping up with violations! It is a pretty easy and non-time-consuming task. The biggest thing with player shop rule enforcement is that, if you hand out violations, make sure to check back in on them within a reasonable amount of time. We expect players to quickly fix the violations, so they should expect us to quickly review their fixes, too.

Nova's Legacy

As tradition, every admin should read Nova's advice regarding player shops. While shop storage is now allowed, her last note about player shop rule enforcement is still particularly valuable:

  • Generally unless itโ€™s blatantly obvious the player didnโ€™t read the rules or just doesn't care I tend to be more lenient about punishments that involve losing the shop. Most people are grateful for a chance to fix it before getting hit with the ban hammer, and I donโ€™t usually deal with repeat offenders. Use your best judgment. At the end of the day itโ€™s still in the rules so enforce it however you think is fair.
